About Us
Central Alabama Wellness
Central Alabama Wellness is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting wellness, recovery, and hope throughout Chilton County, Shelby County, and the greater Birmingham area. We provide comprehensive behavioral health, substance use, and community support services for children, adults, and families across Central Alabama.
Founded in 1972 as the Mental Health Board of Chilton and Shelby Counties, Inc., our organization was established through Alabama Act 310, which created regional mental health boards throughout the state. What began as a single location has grown into a multi-site organization with offices in Calera, Clanton, Pelham, and Birmingham, along with services provided throughout the community and in local schools.
For nearly five decades, the organization was known as Chilton Shelby Mental Health Center. In January 2020, we introduced a new name, Central Alabama Wellness, to better reflect our mission and commitment to whole person wellness. Wellness is more than the absence of illness. It is an ongoing journey of growth, resilience, and making healthy choices that support a fulfilling life. At Central Alabama Wellness, we are dedicated to helping individuals achieve their highest quality of life and empowering them to live well.
Central Alabama Wellness is certified by the Alabama Department of Mental Health to provide behavioral health services. We accept most third-party insurance plans and reduced-fee services may be available for individuals without insurance who meet eligibility requirements.
